Skin is your body’s largest organ.

As discussed in last month’s blog, Boston Center for Plastic Surgery (BCFF) is the best choice for your aesthetic needs because we are a one stop shopping destination. This includes not only our Board-Certified plastic surgeons and Board-Certified cosmetic dermatologist, but also our team of highly trained aestheticians. They are an integral part of our practice, and an important component to keeping you looking and feeling your best. So, here is why seeing an aesthetician is good for your health.

Skin is the Foundation of Health

Skin is your body’s largest organ. When it is healthy, your skin glows with vitality, youth and strength. This, in turn, affects how you feel about yourself. However, if you have not been treating your skin right, or your overall health is off due to a particularly intense allergy season, for example, your skin can develop:

  • Acne
  • Rash
  • Dryness
  • Eczema
  • Redness
  • Dull texture
  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Brown spots

All of these factors can have an adverse effect on your self-esteem.

Furthermore, the skin is the canvas upon which any aesthetic procedure rests. Whether you are interested in a non-surgical procedure such as laser skin rejuvenation or a surgical procedure like liposuction or a facelift, having skin that is healthy and strong will help to deliver the exemplary results that we all want. This is why seeing an aesthetician is good for your health. Our team can deliver glowing skin at any age starting with the right facial.

Aesthetician vs. Esthetician

A medical facial at Boston Center for Plastic Surgery is more intense than what you are going to get at a spa. Though the terms are used interchangeably, there is a difference between a spa’s estheticians and aestheticians. The latter are found in a clinical setting such as our office, and have undergone the rigorous training that allows them to be licensed to perform “medical” procedures such as non-ablative lasers and microneedling. Also, due to their training and the fact that they work side by side with the center’s physicians, our aestheticians have the expertise to assess and properly diagnose your skin’s unique issues.

Medical Facial with Medical Grade Skincare

Our medical facial can be a great way for our younger patients to address their most common skin problems, such as acne, and for our older patients to diminish some of the early signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, and/or maintain their youthful results from a microneedling procedure or a PDO thread lift, for example.

What sets a medical facial apart is the competence of our aestheticians to ascertain your skin’s exact needs and match it to the right facial such as a:

  • Hydrafacial
  • Vitamin facial
  • Environ® facial

And the fact that they use medical grade skincare products further enhances the results. These have a higher potency level than what you get at the local drugstore and can, therefore, be much more efficacious.

Non-Ablative Lasers for Skin Rejuvenation

Laser skin rejuvenation is an excellent way to restore or enhance that youthful glow that we all desire. At Boston Center for Plastic Surgery, we offer our patients the full range of laser options. They fall into two categories:

  • Ablative lasers
  • Non-Ablative lasers

The former can only be performed by a doctor. However, our aestheticians are extremely adept in non-ablative lasers such as:

These are great for addressing uneven skin texture issues such as redness and brown spots as well as improving the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles. They can also induce a slight lift in the skin as your body’s reaction to the “injury” of the heat from the laser is to produce more collagen and elastin. As these are the two pillars of youthful looking, healthy skin, more of both is a good thing.

Reduce Cellulite with TempSure®

TempSure® is a device that uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to improve skin tone and texture anywhere on the face and body. TempSure® Firm can also improve the appearance of cellulite. Since it is estimated that over 90% of women experience some degree of cellulite, TempSure® has proven to be a game changer for our aestheticians, allowing them to help our patients to look and feel better in their skin.

EndyMed Intensif

Microneedling is a cornerstone procedure here at Boston Center for Plastic Surgery. We love its ability to transform the skin, improving your overall health and vitality. Our aestheticians perform a few different microneedling modalities including EndyMed Intensif. This is a procedure that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to address everything from acne scars, to stretch marks and fine wrinkles. Our patients like the fact that this procedure is a quick, effective way to look better without a lot of downtime for recovery.
