Most people today would say that time is our most valued commodity. As patients lives have gotten more harried over the last 10-15 years, the aesthetic community has responded with an ever expanding range of non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques that require minimal downtime. But while my Boston area patients don’t want to invest more hours than necessary into recovery, they also want results. Botox® and fillers, for example, can work wonders. However, neither can lift a moderate to severe amount of sagging skin. At a certain point, every patient must ask his or her self: “Is it time for a Facelift?”.

Surgical Facelift Can Lift

Facial aging is inevitable. The rate at which it shows up in your skin and tissues will depend on a number of things such as:

  • Genetics
  • Lifestyle choices like sun exposure
  • Do you live in or near a big city with considerable pollution?
  • Diet and exercise
  • Hydration
  • Proper skin care
  • Weight gain/loss

Furthermore, aging is never due to just one factor. Loss of skin tone and texture issues such as:

  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Sun spots
  • Redness
  • “Crepey” skin texture

Along with muscle laxity can all make you look older than you feel. There are many effective non-surgical techniques, including lasers and microneedling, for improving your skin’s texture, but a surgical facelift is the only option for lifting a moderate to severe amount of sagging skin, tissue and muscles. This is the delineating line between non-surgical facial rejuvenation and surgical facial rejuvenation.

Ideal Candidate for Facelift in Boston

Answering the question of whether or not it is time for a facelift must begin with an in-person consultation. During our meeting, I will listen to what it is that you dislike about your appearance. I will ask detailed questions about your medical history, family history and any prior procedures that you’ve had, including injectables, as well as how your body responded. This will help me to establish a healing baseline for your individual anatomy. Together, we may review photos of prior facelift patients in order to ensure that we are in synch about your aesthetic goals. I will then perform a thorough physical exam in order to assess exactly what is causing your dissatisfaction.

The ideal candidate for a facelift in Boston is any man or woman in good overall health who is in within 20 lbs. of a maintainable target weight. Ideally, you should be a non-smoker, and have realistic expectations about what a facelift can achieve. I cannot make a 60 year old face look 20. I can, however, deliver the kind of natural looking facial rejuvenation that may transform how you look and feel, causing others to ask where you went on vacation.
