What do you know about microneedling? Odds are, you may not know that much. While the in-office procedure is not new to the aesthetic treatment scene, the current focus on noninvasive, facial rejuvenation techniques means microneedling has recently seen a growth in popularity. The Boston Center for Plastic Surgery’s Dr. Leonard Miller was one of the first cosmetic surgeons to bring medical microneedling to the United States and is pleased to offer some of the most successful results in the country.

The Microneedling Procedure

Medical microneedling, sometimes called Collagen Induction Therapy, is a painless procedure, taking less than an hour in the office. A battery operated oscillating needle, or small rolling drum containing dozens of fine needles, is passed over the skin. These tiny needles, set to a predetermined length, make hundreds of small holes in the tissue. The micro injuries kick-start the body’s natural repair process, encouraging collagen remodeling. In the coming weeks, new skin cells will give the face a glowing, smooth, rejuvenated appearance.

Using only a topical or local anesthetic, microneedling does not require lengthy downtime. Side-effects are minimal, but can include intense redness and swelling lasting up to week. The longer the needle length, the deeper the injuries, and the more downtime; however, this process also achieves the most dramatic results. To avoid prolonged redness, multiple sessions of lesser intensity can be performed several weeks apart, still obtaining the desired aesthetic results.

Benefits of Medical Microneedling Include:

  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Shrink large pores
  • Eliminate scarring from acne/trauma
  • Fade stretch marks
  • Significantly improve lines around the mouth
  • No Scarring
  • Little chance for loss or changes in skin pigment
  • Natural-looking improvements that will last for years to come

Safe Microneedling From a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon

While there are several options for microneedling, including intriguing at-home devices, the only safe method is at a board-certified cosmetic surgeon’s office. Here, the microneedling procedure is a safe technique with little to no chance for serious complications such as infection or scarring.

Dr. Miller has been performing medical microneedling for more than 25 years; longer than anyone else in the United States. He consistently achieves excellent results, successfully reducing facial lines, especially in the upper lip.
