The neck is an often overlooked, yet exceedingly important, part of a healthy, youthful appearance. Unfortunately, with age, the skin below the chin can turn ‘crepey’ and begin to sag. Excess submental fat, also known as a ‘double chin’, may accumulate under the jawline, making the chin look full and puffy. These changes can be the result of the normal aging process, weight fluctuations, and genetics. Even those not overweight can see unwanted subcutaneous fat accumulate under the chin and along the neck. Once this stubborn, unwanted fatty tissue develops, it is impossible to improve simply using over-the-counter products, diet, or exercise. Improvement in neck contour is available in Boston with Dr. Leonard Miller and his innovative neck liposuction procedure.
Neck liposuction is a semi-invasive technique used to contour the features, creating a firmer, smoother neck and chin. The procedure will refine a patient’s overall look and take years off the appearance. The natural looking results can erase years from the face. Almost anyone – from their mid-20s to their late 50s – troubled with excess neck fat, but with good skin elasticity, can see dramatic, natural looking results with neck liposuction from Dr. Miller and the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation.
About Neck Liposuction
Neck liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure, requiring minimal downtime, yet provides significant improvements in the appearance. By gently suctioning away unwanted pockets of fatty tissue, Dr. Miller can restore a youthful, sculpted neckline with a single treatment. Using the technologically advanced, syringe vacuum technique, Dr. Miller will smooth the neckline and contour the chin for aesthetically pleasing results. The technique can be custom tailored to address the individual patient’s needs. Whether correcting a ‘double chin’, or improving a ‘turkey neck’, Dr. Miller’s innovative neck liposuction procedures offer immediate results and long-lasting definition to men and women.
The ideal candidate for neck liposuction will be struggling with excess fatty tissue under the chin and across the neck. Patients should be in overall good health, understand the neck liposuction procedure, and have realistic expectations for their results. It is important that the skin still has a healthy elasticity, or the remaining tissue may become deflated and sag. Those with moderate to severe lax skin may be encouraged to consider a Dr. Miller’s natural facelift or a neck lift, removing excess tissue, as well.
During a private consultation appointment, Dr. Miller will examine the neck and chin tissues, and review the patient’s medical history. Next, he will explain in detail his neck liposuction procedures. Depending on the individual patient’s specific needs, an additional procedure may be recommended, including the addition of a complimentary nonsurgical treatment like Kybella or ThermiTight.
The Neck Liposuction Procedure
Neck liposuction is performed using local anesthesia and will take less than an hour to perform. To begin, Dr. Miller will make several very small incisions, from 1-2mm, along the chin and behind the ears. From here, a thin cannula, or hollow tube, will be inserted, and suction away the excess fatty tissue. Dr. Miller will continue the liposuction procedure until the unwanted fat is removed and he has achieved a natural looking, defined contour along the chin and neck.
Neck Liposuction Recovery
Patients can expect their neck liposuction recovery to take from one to two days. Pain after the treatment is minimal, and discomfort is well-controlled with prescription medications or pain medication relievers. A compression garment or chin strap will need to be worn for two to three days following neck liposuction, which will ensure proper healing and minimal swelling or bruising. Most patients are feeling and looking well enough to return to work in two days. Heavy lifting and vigorous exercise should be postponed for at least two to three weeks.
Dr. Miller’s neck liposuction procedure is a safe and dependable procedure. Complications are extremely rare. However, there is always a small risk for unexpected bleeding, infection, asymmetry, or fluid collection (seromas). More serious risks, such as dimpling or nerve damage can also occur. To avoid any issues, patients should always see a board certified plastic surgeon, with extensive neck liposuction experience. An experienced surgeon, like Dr. Miller, will understand how much fat can be safely removed to create a defined, youthful neck without causing any side-effect or future problems.
Neck Liposuction Results
The benefits of Dr. Miller’s neck liposuction procedure can be seen immediately. These results will continue to improve, as any swelling and discoloration resolves. As the eliminated fatty tissue does not return, patients will note their neck liposuction results are long-lasting. However, it is important to remember the surrounding fatty tissue can still expand. Continuing with a healthy lifestyle and a steady weight will help neck liposuction patients to maintain their results.
As one of the top plastic surgeons in the Boston area, Dr. Miller has been performing this procedure every week for more than 25 years. Over time, he has established his own neck liposuction techniques, combining exceptional training, meticulous skill, and a sharp eye for beauty to provide the safest and most satisfying aesthetic procedures.
