As skin ages, the production of collagen and elastin slow significantly. Over time, facial tissues can become lax and wrinkled, looking dull and even unhealthy. Years of sun damage, acne, smoking, and genetic disposition can magnify these issues. At the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation, Dr. Leonard Miller has developed a simple procedure to diminish stubborn lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, and stretch marks, dramatically improving one’s appearance. Micro-Needling is a safe, noninvasive way to rejuvenate the skin without the harsh, damaging side effects of traditional procedures. This unique, cutting-edge technique can quickly restore a youthful appearance, without any downtime.
Medical micro-needling can correct:
- Mild to moderate acne scars
- Surgical scarring
- Fine lines and deeper creases
- Large pores
- Poor skin texture and looseness
- Crepy Skin
- Stretch marks
About Micro-Needling
Cutting-edge Micro-Needling was first introduced into the United States by Dr. Miller. Through his unsurpassed experience in noninvasive skin rejuvenating techniques, Dr. Miller understood that the tiny needles of Micro-Needling could create breaks in the skin surface and kick start the body’s natural collagen production. This distinctive Micro-Needling technique is safe for all skin types and ethnicities, without the damaging side effects seen with harsher laser treatments. The noninvasive procedure is gentle on skin, ensuring fast healing and superior cell regrowth for long-lasting results.
Micro-Needling combines an automated roller, with up to twelve fine needles, and rejuvenating topical therapies. With Micro-Needling, Dr. Miller can adjust the needle depth to customize each procedure. Thin skin, such as the delicate tissue under the eyes, will require shorter needles, as opposed to areas of thicker skin, like that of the cheeks, lips, forehead and décolletage. Micro-Needling can be used on almost any area of the body where there are scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, or crepiness. The most common locations for Micro-Needling include the forehead, around the eyes, mouth, belly button, breasts, and abdomen. In fact, any area of the body can be treated.
Dr. Leonard Miller is by far the best plastic surgeon in Boston . I have been with him for over 10 years and a few different procedures and have had such an amazing experience every time.
Combining Micro-Needling with Lip Augmentation in Boston, MA
The best treatment for the lips and areas around the mouth is a combination of lip rejuvenation to accentuate the lips and micro-needling to treat signs of aging around the mouth.
Lip augmentation with micro-needling works together to provide beautiful, full, shapely lips while smoothing vertical lip lines, smoker’s lines, and wrinkles around the mouth. When lip augmentation is combined with micro-needling, it provides long-lasting, significant improvements to the lips and area around the mouth.
Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, treats the face to stimulate elastin and collagen. Micro-needling is noninvasive without damaging side effects, chemicals, or much downtime. Facial microneedling, when performed by Dr. Miller, requires four days of downtime as this treatment diminishes lines. It is gentle on the skin, safe for every skin type and ethnicity, and beautifully enhances lip augmentation.
Lip augmentation and micro-needling use natural resources found in the body and are excellent complementary treatments. Lip augmentation uses hyaluronic acid (HA) or extracted fat to plump the lips, which exist naturally in the body. Micro-needling stimulates the skin to trigger the body’s natural production of collagen.
Benefits of Lip Augmentation with Micro-Needling
Lip augmentation is a noninvasive treatment that adds volume and definition to the lips. The micro-needling procedure compliments lip augmentation by activating collagen and elastin to refresh and rejuvenate the skin surrounding the mouth.
The lip augmentation and micro-needling procedures provide outstanding results with mild side effects and a quick recovery. Micro-needling addresses various skin conditions, including acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and large pores.
The benefits of micro-needling performed in the area around the mouth include:
- Increased collagen production
- Healthier, younger-looking skin
- Natural-looking results
- Improved skin texture
- Reduced rosacea
- Smaller pores around the nasal area
- Reduced smokers lines
- Tighter, firmer skin
Dermal filler lip augmentation provides full, beautiful lips for 12-18 months, and lip augmentation using fat transfer will last for years. Returning for routinely scheduled micro-needling treatments and dermal lip injections will ensure longer-lasting benefits.

The Micro-Needling Procedure
Dr. Miller’s Micro-Needling is performed in one of the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation’s comfortable, private treatment rooms and takes less than an hour. To ensure patient comfort, an analgesic cream, with or without local anesthesia, will be used prior to treatment. Next, the sterile needler with its tiny needles will be passed over the targeted area. The treatment will create shallow microinjuries, at a predetermined depth, in the surface of the skin. A dermal roller may also be used when deeper treatments are performed to achieve more dramatic results. However, the recovery period will be longer in this situation.
Micro-Needling Recovery
There is no downtime required following a light Micro-Needling session. However, it is common for the skin to look pink for the first 24 hours. Micro-Needling may be superficial and gentle or deeper and more injurious depending on the condition of the skin being treated. Ointments and cleansing may be required up to five days with redness of the area occurring up to a month. Side effects of Micro-Needling are rare, but in a few cases, pigmentation changes can occur.
Dr. Miller will explain the proper skin care routine to be used during the Micro-Needling recovery. A mineral foundation may be suggested during the initial healing period, so as to keep the skin free of bacteria. By the fourth day after a Micro-Needling treatment, patients can resume use of their normal makeup products.
Results from Micro-Needling
Some patients will see results from Micro-Needling just a few days after their first treatment. In one to two weeks, as the body begins to produce collagen and elastin, the skin will start to look firmer and tighter. As new skin cells come to the surface, over the next several months, the tissues will become smoother, tauter, and healthier in appearance.
Depending on the area being treated and the level of correction desired, between one and six Micro-Needling treatments will be recommended by Dr. Miller. Patients with moderate to severe sun damage, deep acne scarring, or extensive stretch marks will require at least six Micro-Needling sessions. These should be spaced about four weeks apart, to give the skin time to heal between treatments.
The benefits from a series of Micro-Needling treatments can last up to a full year. To maintain ideal results, Micro-Needling can be repeated at this time. Dr. Miller will recommend a daily skin care regimen to extend the results of Micro-Needling.
The Cost of Micro-Needling
The exact price of Micro-Needling will depend on several factors, including the area being treated, the condition of the skin, and the extent of correction. During the consultation appointment, Dr. Miller and his aesthetician will determine the number of recommended Micro-Needling sessions, and determine the cost of treatment. Micro-Needling is not covered by insurance. The Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation accepts cash, credit cards, and health care financing through Prosper Healthcare Lending. Speak with a patient coordinator for more information on payment options.

Micro-Needling FAQ
Micro-Needling is an innovative treatment to rejuvenate the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. Very small needles, in a single, sterilized applicator, are passed over the skin to create a series of controlled ‘micro-injuries’. As the tissue heals, the body’s natural production of collagen and elastic are increased, resulting in healthy, smooth, skin.
The number of Micro-Needling treatments needed will depend on the target area and the extent of correction needed. On average, between one and six Micro-Needling sessions are recommended, spaced approximately four weeks apart. During the consultation appointment, Dr. Miller and his aesthetician will determine the number of treatments needed to achieve optimal results.
Some patients see benefits from Micro-Needling in only a day or two. However, the results from Micro-Needling normally take from one to two weeks to appear, as the skin heals and collagen production begins. These results will continue to improve over the next several months.
Micro-Needling is not considered painful. However, to ensure patient comfort, Dr. Miller will apply a topical numbing cream and when needed, a local anesthetic, prior to the Micro-Needling procedure.
Dr. Miller has decades of experience with nonsurgical skin rejuvenation and has personally developed his own Micro-Needling techniques to ensure the safest, most effective results. While extremely rare, risks of Micro-Needling include pinpoint bleeding, pigment changes, and scarring.
