Plastic surgery is constantly evolving. It’s one of the things that attracted me to this field in the first place. We listen closely to what our patients want and look for ways to deliver on these desires. And if those ways don’t exist yet, we create them. Patients today lead really busy lives. So, what they want are procedures that effectively turn-back-the-clock, delivering a natural looking result, but which require as little downtime as possible. This is why there has been such an explosion of new innovation in the non-surgical and minimally invasive arena. It’s incredibly exciting. However, there is always a downside to popularity. It means that a lot of people who don’t necessarily know what they’re doing are performing injectables, for example. At the Boston Center for Plastic Surgery, every non-surgical or minimally invasive procedure for the face, neck or body is performed by a Board-Certified plastic surgeon or a Board-Certified dermatologist.

Why Board-Certified Matters

There are many reasons why it’s important to see a Board-Certified plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist. As mentioned, with the proliferation of new non-surgical procedures, they seem to be available everywhere these days. But just because someone has a medical degree does not mean that he or she has the artistic eye and aesthetic training to deliver a truly exemplary result. We’ve all seen men and women with faces that just look “off” or weird. This is what can happen when fillers, for example, are placed in the wrong area or used in an attempt to lift severely sagging skin.

Board certification means that the person doing your procedure has undergone rigorous training. He or she has extensive experience, has been tested on this experience and participates in continuing education in the latest techniques. Seeing a doctor who is Board-Certified is one of the simplest ways to guarantee that you are in the best hands possible. While many plastic surgery practices will have other members of their team perform certain non-surgical procedures, at the Boston Center for Plastic Surgery, every single non-surgical or minimally invasive procedure is performed by either myself, or Dr. Doherty.

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Procedures

When it comes to non-surgical and minimally invasive facial rejuvenation, there are a lot of options. These include:

The right one for you is going to depend on your anatomy, needs and lifestyle. Oftentimes, it may require a combination of procedures to deliver on your goals. This is another reason why it is so vital to see a Board-Certified plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist. We know the subtle pros and cons of every procedure that we perform. This deep knowledge enables us to give you an honest assessment of whether or not Botox, for example, is truly the right call for the wrinkles on your forehead.

Non-Surgical Body Contouring Procedures

Coolsculpting, which is a non-surgical procedure for eliminating excess pockets of fat, seems to be available on every street corner. But just because it’s a procedure that doesn’t involve incisions does not mean that it is simple. Having someone who performs surgical body contouring and understands how to sculpt your body into its ideal contour is going to deliver a superior Coolsculpting result. The same is true for SculpSure, which uses heat to eliminate excess fat, and Renuvion, which utilizes cold plasma to both tighten the skin and reduce fat.

Bottom line, non-surgical does not mean not complicated. So, if you are considering some form of rejuvenation on your face, neck or body, see a Board-Certified plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist. You’re worth it.
