Are you concerned about the signs of aging affecting your facial appearance? As we age, the skin loses elasticity, leading to sagging and the formation of jowls. Dr. Leonard Miller offers a safe and innovative solution:  A PDO thread lift.

What is a PDO thread lift?

PDO thread lift is an advanced procedure to lift, tighten, and smoothen skin on the face, neck, and other body areas. It's designed to restore the youthful V-shape of the face by delicately lifting tissues, creating taut and smooth skin with minimal swelling and complications.

About PDO threads

PDO threads use the body's selective inflammatory response to achieve exceptional facial rejuvenation. Delivered with a fine needle, these absorbable Polydioxanone (PDO) sutures are inserted under the skin to lift soft tissues in the face or neck. These sutures trigger the skin's healing process, naturally generating new collagen and tissue structure.

Where are PDO threads used?

PDO threads are FDA-approved for safe lifting, tightening, and smoothing of skin on the face, neck, and other areas of the body. While they can be used in various places, they are most effective in the lower third of the face, an area typically challenging to treat with BOTOX or fillers. PDO threads work particularly well on the neck and jawline. They can significantly improve the appearance of cheeks, jowls, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and the border of the upper and lower lips.

The PDO thread lift procedure

Each PDO thread lift session at the Boston Center for Plastic Surgery is conducted in a private treatment room and takes less than half an hour. Threads are carefully inserted using a small needle preloaded with absorbable PDO thread. Dr. Miller gently inserts the needle about 2-3 mm below the skin's surface, leaving the PDO thread in place. Depending on the correction needed, Dr. Miller may use either the NovaMesh or NovaLyft technique:

  • NovaMesh: This technique creates a mesh-like structure under the skin, serving as a stable foundation for new collagen production, naturally tightening the skin.
  • NovaLyft: For more dramatic results, NovaLyft employs PDO sutures with tiny barbs to lift and reposition the skin instantly. Over time, these sutures are absorbed, and new collagen secures the results.

PDO thread lift recovery

PDO thread lift requires no downtime. Depending on the area treated, most patients can return to work and social activities immediately. Some patients may choose to take a short break to allow any swelling or bruising to resolve.

Common side effects include tenderness, bruising, minor swelling, and pinpoint bleeding. As these sutures are naturally absorbed by the body, complications or scarring are rare. Patients should stop taking blood-thinning medications (Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Aleve) several days before the procedure. PDO threads are reversible and removable.

PDO thread lift results

Results from PDO thread lift are visible immediately, with continued improvement as the body produces collagen. The lifted and smooth skin can last for 9 to 12 months or longer. In most cases, only one treatment is needed, though some patients may require a second treatment based on their specific needs.

What are PDO threads?

PDO threads are small, absorbable sutures placed beneath the skin using a fine needle. This non-surgical technique provides immediate results for a noninvasive facelift or neck lift. Over four to six weeks, as the body heals and produces collagen, the area is lifted and smoothed for long-lasting results.

How long does a PDO threads treatment take?

Each PDO thread lift procedure at Boston Center for Plastic Surgery takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the area treated and the technique used.

Which areas can benefit from PDO threads treatment?

PDO threads can be used on most areas of the face and body, but they provide exceptional results in the lower third of the face and the neck. They are often used to improve the appearance of eyebrows, sagging cheeks, Smoker's Lines, Marionette Lines, and sagging jowls.

Am I a good candidate for PDO threads?

PDO threads are best for individuals with mild to moderate sagging tissue, ptosis, or crepey skin on the face and neck. They are not recommended for patients allergic to lidocaine or epinephrine or those with active infections, colds, or rashes.

When will I see my PDO thread lift results?

Patients can see immediate results in lifted tissues and tighter skin after their PDO threads session. As collagen increases and the natural healing process occurs, results continue to improve. A repeat session is typically not necessary for 9 to 12 months.
