Changes in tissue elasticity and tone can be expected over the years. Unfortunately, as facial skin becomes lax, fine lines and wrinkles form. Additionally, as the natural stores of fat are slowly depleted, ‘hollow’ areas can form under the eyes and cheeks, sometimes thinning the lips, as well. Add lifestyle factors to these inevitable changes, such as smoking or sun damage, and the early signs of aging can start to appear all too soon. Two of the most requested dermal fillers offered at the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation include Juvéderm® and Juvéderm Voluma®, both designed to plump tissues, restoring a smooth and youthful appearance. Performed alone, or in combination with additional techniques, Board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Leonard Miller, Dr. Sean Doherty, and Dr. Akshay Sanan, and Board-eligible plastic surgeon Dr. Vickram Tandon, and board-certified dermatologists Dr. Farah Moustafa and Dr. Melissa Michelon can make Juvederm® part of a personalized treatment plan, creating a youthful appearance.
Juvéderm®
Juvederm® is a unique soft tissue filler, approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a safe and effective treatment to improve static wrinkles and restore fullness to facial tissues. Made from Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Juvederm® is unlike traditional fillers. Absorbed by the body at a slower rate, the injectable can offer more consistent, long-lasting results. The HA pulls in moisture from the surrounding tissues, binding with existing collagen stores to smooth wrinkles and replace lost facial volume. When injected under the skin, these molecules work like little sponges, bonding to the water that naturally exists in the skin. This causes a plumping reaction, smoothing skin and creating facial volume. Over time, Juvederm® is safely absorbed and metabolized by the body. Benefits of treatment are immediate and, depending on the target area, can last for six months or longer.
Juvederm® can:
- Smooth Nasolabial Folds
- Erase Frown Lines, or the 11s between the brow
- Eliminate Marionette Lines, at the corners of the mouth
- Restore volume along the cheekbones
- Eliminate ‘hollow’ areas under the eyes
- Sculpt the jawline
- Plump thinning lips
Replacing Lost Facial Volume With Juvederm Voluma®
Voluma® is one of the newest members of the Juvederm ® family. The only FDA-approved filler of its kind, Voluma® was created especially for adding volume to the cheeks, under the eyes, and throughout the mid-face region. When applied by an experienced injector, Voluma® can provide instantaneous augmentation results in targeted treatment areas, while also helping to smooth moderate to severe wrinkles for the most natural-looking, rejuvenated appearance. Approved for patients 21 and older, the contouring and lifting effects of Juvederm Voluma® can last up to two years before a repeat treatment is needed.
The Ideal Candidate For Juvederm®
Almost anyone looking to ease the early signs of aging, by smoothing fine lines and restoring lost volume, can make a good candidate for Juvederm®. Beginning with a confidential consultation at the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation, Dr. Miller, Dr. Sanan, Dr. Tandon, Dr. Doherty, Dr. Moustafa, or Dr. Michelon will review each patient’s medical history and discuss their aesthetic desires. Next, he will carefully evaluate the facial tissues, determining the best technique(s) to achieve the predetermined goals. An ideal Juvederm® candidate will be in overall good health, understand the injectable treatment plan, and hold reasonable expectations for their results. Juvederm® is safe for both men and women, of any skin type or ethnicity. However, those with a known allergy to the bacterial proteins found in Juvederm® may not make a good candidate for treatment.
The Juvéderm® Procedure
Each Juvederm® session will be performed in one of the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation’s comfortable treatment rooms, generally taking less than half an hour. While the injections are not considered painful, for additional comfort, Dr. Miller, Dr. Sanan, Dr. Tandon, Dr. Doherty, Dr. Moustafa, or Dr. Michelon will add a local or topical anesthetic upon request. Once the patient is comfortable, and the target area has been determined, Juvederm® is applied under the skin using a very small needle. As no downtime is needed, patients are back to their normal routine immediately. While mild redness, swelling, and tenderness are common, these normally resolve over the first 24 to 48 hours. With little chance for serious side-effects, Juvederm® and Voluma® make excellent ‘lunchtime lift’ techniques.
Juvéderm® Results
The benefits of Juvederm® can be seen right away. As the HA continues to encourage the body’s production of collagen, the results will continue to improve over the coming months. Depending on the treatment area, the results from Juvederm® can last from six to nine months, and in some cases, up to two years. As the benefits fade, a maintenance session can safely extend the results. Juvederm® can provide excellent, natural-looking results when used on its own. However, for optimal facial rejuvenation, Dr. Miller, Dr. Sanan, Dr. Tandon, Dr. Doherty, Dr. Moustafa, or Dr. Michelon may suggest additional techniques, such as Botox®, medical facials, and advanced laser treatments.
How Much Does Juvéderm® Cost?
The cost associated with Juvéderm® dermal fillers will depend on several factors, including the number of treatment areas and the extent of correction desired. While insurance does not cover the cost of Juvederm®, or any other elective cosmetic treatment, the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation offers a variety of payment options, including all major credit cards and medical financing through CareCredit. To find out the exact cost of your desired treatment, or to get additional information about the Juvederm® family of dermal fillers, contact the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation at (617) 735-8735. During a confidential consultation with Dr. Miller, Dr. Sanan, Dr. Tandon, Dr. Doherty, Dr. Moustafa, or Dr. Michelon, a personalized Juvederm® treatment plan will be created, designed around your specific needs.
Dr. Miller is soooo talented when it comes to facial work. I go to him for botox and filler a couple of times/year and I have had an eye lift and mini lift (about five years apart). He knows how to improve your looks without it being overdone, which is an art form he excels at. Or,put another way, Dr. Miller is the most conservative and careful of plastic surgeons. I have been going to Dr. Miller for about 15 years and consider myself lucky to be one of his many very satisfied clients.
