Many of us are making New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier or work out. But why not make a resolution to take better care of your skin? Your skin is one of the first things people notice when they meet you and with just a few simple tweaks to your routine, you could have your most radiant skin in 2016 and for years to come. So here are my best resolutions for more gorgeous, younger-looking skin:

  1. Never Neglect Your Neck

Skincare doesn’t stop at your chin. Your neck can show a significant amount of aging but is often one of the most forgotten areas on your body. When applying daily moisturizer or sunscreen, be sure to extend it to both the front and sides of your neck. Reducing the amount of UV light your skin is exposed to daily will dramatically lessen future wrinkles. Also, be sure to exfoliate the neck two to three times a week to keep it looking smooth.

  1. Get Some Beauty Sleep

At night, your body is most metabolically active, ridding itself of toxins, which wreak havoc on your skin. Getting a good night’s rest is key to keeping these toxins at bay. Also, sleeplessness compromises the body’s circulatory system. Ever wonder why you get circles under your eyes after only a few hours’ sleep? Stagnant blood stays in the vessels under your eyes because they have not had the chance to properly drain. When you feel tired, you look tired. Aim for seven to eight hours of restful sleep. It’s called “beauty sleep” for a reason.

  1. Drink More H2O

You’ve heard it plenty of times before because it’s true! Water truly is one of the best and most economical ways to keep your skin looking healthy. Drinking 2-3 liters (8-12 cups) of water a day can help detox your skin, so drink up!

  1. Always Wear SPF

If you don’t wear SPF every day, make 2016 the year you commit to doing so and in turn, protecting your skin. The sun and its UV rays can cause wrinkles and discoloration on the skin. And while you may not be one to lay out by the pool, you are still getting hit by UV rays while you’re running errands, even driving in your car! It’s never too late (or too early) to defend skin from the number-one cause of aging. So wear SPF every day, even on cloudy or rainy days. Your skin will thank you later.

  1. Leave Your Blemishes Alone

Picking at blemishes is tempting but always ends badly. Picking will give you a bleeding, oozing scab, which leads to further inflammation of the skin, scarring, and discoloration that can linger for months. Let Mother Nature do her job to heal and apply a spot treatment to help repair it a little faster.

  1. Assess The Products You’re Using

If you aren’t seeing results with your skin care products, it may be that they aren’t suited for your personal needs. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Miller or one of our aestheticians to go over your skin care regimen and find the skin care products that may be right for you. We carry only the very best skin care products available that refresh, revitalize and improve the overall health of our patients’ skin. Learn more about the skin care products we carry by clicking here or call us at 617-735-8735 to set up a consultation.

  1. Skin Care and Laser Treatments

If you are prone to blemishes or blackheads, a deep pore-cleansing facial by one of our very skilled aestheticians may be just what you need to improve your skin in 2016. Our office also offers several other skin care treatments like microdermabrasion, skin needling, chemical peels, laser hair removal, laser resurfacing and radiofrequency skin tightening. Our aestheticians are among the very best in the business and would love to be a part of your journey to improving your skin. Call to schedule your consultation.

By incorporating these changes into your daily routine, 2016 will be your most beautiful skin year yet. Happy New Year!
